He's not because he wants a deal, and to have a deal he has to talk to someone in charge, and the IRGC's in charge in Iran right now, and they don't make deals.
I don't see where he's backstepped at all. Sooner or later you negotiate with a defeated enemy. That's what finally settles it.
But I don't think Trump is any hurry. The closed strait hurts China a whole lot more than it hurts the USA. The closed strait is fracturing alliances, and I think Trump is calculating opportunities in that regard.
I think there's a lot more at play than bombing Islamists. With other countries in the mix like China and Russia, and with a vast local Iranian population that are doing their best to take down the regime after being downtrodden so long, it wouldn't be easy doing enough to end the regime whilst preserving the Iranians that do not follow, or do not wish to follow the regime. It's those people in the country, on the ground, that will have to rebuild their country. With the money for oil and other commodities stopped from China along with replacement missiles, arms and ammo, Iran will be losing a lot of money and power daily. And who is Trump negotiating with currently. Who is the new leader of the regime, and are they physically and mentally competent? Are there a bunch of mini despots running about trying to jump into leadership shoes? Nothing there is a straightforward thing, and nobody in a war gives away their next moves.
They bombed the hell out of Vietnam. And when that didn't work, they bombed it some more. Bombs can be effective when you have a battle zone and drop bombs on the soldiers. You can drop bombs on key manufacturing, but that's already been done in Iran.
Bombs don't stop the mines in the strait.
I'm guessing the Iranian leadership has stopped gathering together in bombable groups. And, who is the leader anyway? I don't think even the Iranian leadership knows who the leader is. Who is sending the speedboats to harass ships in the strait? Possibly no one. Various crews may just be taking it upon themselves to do it.

Give him another week; he's figuring it out.
Which was more important a nt? A deal or victory? I say victory!
"Deal" and "victory" here are the same thing, unless you want another ground war.
This barely even qualifies as a war. Not yet 2 months, negligible loss of American lives.
I have memories of Vietnam. Not the same thing.
You are correct? This isn't Vietnam, but he had in won and gave up? WHY?

What did he "give up?" Blockade's still on; the troops are ready for whatever comes next.
Indeed. Compared to other conflicts, this is barely a police action.
